Joseph E. Sardella

CA, CPA, International Tax Partner

Joseph Sardella is a Partner in the firm's international tax practice. He advises both personal and corporate clients that are expanding into the US and international tax markets.
Joseph is a member of the Ontario and British Columbia Institutes of Chartered Accountants as well as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is a licensed CPA in Illinois and is a member of the New York, Florida, California and Missouri Society of CPA's. Joseph has a Masters in US Taxation from Canisius College in Buffalo and has taken advanced US tax courses from Bentley College in Boston and Golden Gate University in San Francisco.

Joseph has over 17 years of practical experience in US & Canadian personal & corporate tax from senior level positions held in public corporations and international accounting firms. Joseph has extensive experience in taxation matters relating to US corporate and expatriate tax compliance; US and cross border structuring and financing; hybrid entities, tax controversy, tax treaty interpretation, US reorganization and state nexus issues.

Joseph is also an IRS certifying acceptance agent and an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Tax Focus groups which work with the IRS in developing US tax legislation. He has written or been quoted in articles in the Canadian Business magazine, Globe & Mail, Vancouver Sun, Investment Executive, The Tax Advisor and Plant Magazine.

BEST PART OF THE JOB

If the income tax code was a person, it would be a black and white thinker.   I see the tax rules as a roadmap  which if understood within their context contain the seeds for effective tax planning.  I look for those “seeds”.  They allow me to advise a client on not “what can’t be done” but rather “how to get it done”.  To me there is no greater definition of effective client service than being able to deliver the improbable.  It’s that satisfaction that keeps me passionate about what I do at MSCM.
