Being "Green" starts in the mind
We believe that, as a firm, we must work towards a culture in which the green choice is the first choice, without question or hesitation. The challenge is to know the difference between what seems green and what is actually so. We've made great strides in doing the first, most obvious things: reduction of paper throughput, use of recycled and recyclable materials and office supplies wherever possible, responsible use of public transport at every opportunity, choosing to carry out business from an environmentally responsible building, and more. Plus, our newly formed environmental committee is in constant search for what's next, and what's better.
We know we are not doing everything perfectly. But we are determined to do everything each day with a bit more awareness than we had the day before. It seems to us to be a key corporate and individual responsibility.
Following are a couple of the initiatives the newly minted Green committee will be addressing in the days and weeks to come:
REDUCE/IMPROVE PAPER USAGE
MSCM would like to reduce paper usage by ensuring that printers and photocopiers use environmentally friendly paper (FSC/recycled paper is being investigated, and testing will begin over the next few weeks). In addition, printers will be set-up to default to double-sided printing.
REDUCE ENERGY USAGE
We will be contracting an Environmental consulting firm to conduct an environmental audit with the aim to help reduce energy usage at the firm.We look forward to reporting what the audit uncovers in this space, so please be sure to check back with us.
