Here’s what we’ve been up to latelySCHOLARSHIP & BUSINESS EXCELLENCE AWARDS 1. The Rui & Luisa Faria Scholarship Fund awarded $1,500 to Elisia Neves who earned an Honours Bachelor Degree in Architectural Studies in 2008 and is currently completing a Masters of Architecture 2. Wilson Teixeira of Able Transport Limited (a client of MSCM) was awarded the New Generation Award which recognizes entrepreneurs under the age of 40. Congratulations to all the recipients!COYOTES WITH HEART MSCM’s Andrew Spidle and his fellow “Hamilton Coyotes” teammates were proud to place second in total fundraising in excess of $31,000 for life saving research at the first annual “Hockey for Heart” Charity Tournament for the Heart and Stroke Foundation held in Kitchener Ontario. Helping Haiti In the first few days after the recent earthquake in Haiti, the full extent of the destruction and loss of life became clear, and we were all shocked by what we saw. Like so many others, the people of MSCM were moved to begin a fund-raising program to aid the relief effort. Our staff quickly donated $4,025, which was instantly matched by the firm’s partners. Our total of $8,050 was then matched by Canadian Government relief funds, for a total of $16,100 to be donated to the Canadian Red Cross Haiti Earthquake Program. The re-building program in Haiti has barely begun, but we are hopeful that our contribution will help the Red Cross to continue their mission of mercy. DOROTHY LEY HOSPICE Halloween, 2009 was more fun than scary when we took part in a wild and wacky Charity Bed-Race to benefit the Dorothy Ley Hospice. Our team of 8 speedy runners (and sleepers) had a great day and helped raise over $4,000. www.dlhospice.org/en/ 2009 Tournament a solid success The 2009 Jo Thorman Memorial Golf Tournament was held on Saturday, September 12, 2009 and was, once again, a resounding success. The Glen Abbey Golf Club was an ideal setting for us to enjoy the friendly company and the challenging golf. As a group, the golfers raised $3,800, plus an additional $770 in the lucky raffle, bringing the total to $4,570. In the past, MSCM LLP has matched any money we have raised. This year, the firm actually doubled what was raised. As a result, the total donations in the current year are $14,000, just shy of last year’s record of $15,800. This also brings the total we have raised since we started donations to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to $66,240. Read More...
